A spanyolországi Girona városában megrendezett Arany Elefánt Cirkuszfesztivál – hivatalos nevén Festival Internacional del Circ Elefant d’Or – évről évre olyan produkciókat mutat be, amelyeket korábban még nem láthatott az európai közönség.
Az évente megrendezett gironai fesztivál egyik legfontosabb sajátossága, hogy a világ különböző pontjairól kutat fel olyan attrakciókat, amelyek korábban még nem szerepeltek Európa porondjain. Ez a válogatói munka egyszerre kíván kivételes szakmai érzékenységet, bátorságot és komoly szervezői erőt. Hozzájárul ahhoz, hogy a cirkuszművészet folyamatosan megújuljon, friss inspirációt adjon az artistáknak, és új közönségrétegeket szólítson meg a különleges, sokszor valóban páratlan műsorszámokkal.
A fesztivál mögött álló Circus Arts Foundation nonprofit kulturális szervezet, amelyhez a besalúi Circusland múzeum is kapcsolódik. Genís Matabosch munkája és Joan Mompart közreműködése évek óta meghatározó a fesztivál arculatának alakításában, és szép példája annak, hogyan lehet a cirkuszművészet szolgálatát egyszerre kutatói, szervezői és közönségépítő szenvedéllyel végezni.

Uno de los rasgos más distintivos del festival es su firme vocación de descubrir atracciones procedentes de los más diversos rincones del mundo, números que hasta entonces no habían pisado las pistas de Europa. Esta labor de selección exige, a un tiempo, una sensibilidad profesional excepcional, valentía y una notable capacidad organizativa. Gracias a ello, el arte del circo puede renovarse de manera constante, ofrecer nueva inspiración a los artistas y atraer a nuevos públicos mediante propuestas extraordinarias que, con frecuencia, son verdaderamente incomparables.
Detrás del festival se encuentra la Circus Arts Foundation, una organización cultural sin ánimo de lucro estrechamente vinculada al museo Circusland de Besalú.
